Abstract
Modern poetry represents a vision of human style stemming from a strong a awarness of the world. Being so, its elements do not conectrate on its themes, but on terms of the visions and positions that separate the human being from his position and his problems and the world around him. Adonis poem is chosen as a sample that reveals some visions of the poet regarding time as one of the most known theme in modern Arab poetry. The study contains an introduction of the relation of time with literature. It also contains a presentation for Adonis'spoint of view of time and an analysis of the poem "time" in terms of pursuing time in its different denotation: time, past, present, future and death. These indications are very clearly in the poem parts. The study reveals that the time for Adonis is a mixture of time with different relation: the relation of past with present and their relation to future, then the relation of all of this with the human self represented in the speaker poet, and the relation of the self with place, then the relation of time with place. This can be seen through the connection between the self of the speaker time. Beirut and Qassabin (a place). This as a whole makes the poem an unlimited space, which contains all these elements. It's language contains the dream in different times and places that passes past but never leaves it and views future without being sway of his present.
