Preparing Arabic for Machine Translation: The Semantics Component

Abstract
This paper provides a suggestion for the preparation of Arabic for machine translation, elicited from the European experience in this filed. The researcher stresses that the compilation of a comprehensive electronic lexicon be the first step towards this goal. The lexicon is not a mere list of words and their meanings; rather, it is encyclopedic and cumulative. It is believed that this lexicon makes the main pillar towards the semantic preparation of Arabic for machine translation.
