Abstract
This paper is an attempt to shed light on the replacement issue of SultanSa'idbin Taymur (1932-1970)wich lasted between 1959 and 1970, especially the deliberations among British officials that led the British Government to abandon him from power in July 23, 1970.
The decision was a corollary to Sa'id'srefusal to make developments to meet the public demands of his people who finally rose against him. This step was in line with the British attempt to preserve their interests in a stable region, following their decision to withdraw from the ArabGulf in the late 1971. The British Government only wanted to leave behind a powerful ruler who would be willing to develop his state and keep it stable. Of course, sinceSa'id was no up to these prospects, the British brought Qaboos, his son, to power to fulfill this goal.
