Abstract

The present paper aims at investigating the functional and structural aspects of the narrative component in maintaining coherence of the poetic text. Some selected poems by Abu Firas Al-Hamdani have been taken as case studies. This paper deals with narration and narrative scheme as used in poetry. Then, the article studies some tools used in implementing textual narrative scheme linguistically. It concludes that the narrative has an efficient role in building coherent networks of relations in the poetic text; the narrative used in the text is efficiently and wholly connected to the textual structure as it introduces and integrates the techniques.
