Abstract

This study aims at finding out what determines stopping or continuing giving birth to male babies among women in Jordan.

The sample of the study consisted of (419) married women, aged 26-49 years old, who only gave birth to female babies and live in local communities surrounding Irbid. The result showed that preferring giving birth to male babies among the sample was moderately determined by the following: first, social class; second, economic situation; third, social pressure or stigma. The study has concluded that there are significant statistical differences for preferring male babies to female ones due to the number of boys among the wife’s family and following certain ways to give birth to boys with the exception of other variables mentioned in the study.

Key words: Conceiving Children, Termination of Conceiving Children, Continuity of Conceiving Children.
