Reciting Skills in Arabic and French Languages among French Language Students at Yarmouk University: A Comparative Analysis Study

Abstract

This research studies and analyses the subject of reciting skills which is one of the basic skills of oral expression in learning languages. It highlights the performance patterns of literary texts of poetry shared between two languages, Arabic and French, recited by French language students at the faculty of arts at Yarmouk University. The performance patterns are accompanied by an analytical study comparing levels of reciting, according to four basic criteria set by the researchers, namely: correctness of the language, style of recitation, self-confidence, and the ability to influence.

The research has in fact practical dimensions, but it is based on the theoretical framework of learning reciting skills in Arabic as a native language, and in French as a foreign language which is the language of specialization for students who represent the study sample. The general idea of this research is to compare between two artistic performances of literary texts: one in English and one in French, to examine how much the students master the skills of reciting in both languages, or differentiate in reciting in one of these languages, and identify the underlying causes of it.
