Pragmatic and Doctrinal Aspects in Muslim Brotherhood's Policies in Jordan

Abstract

The purpose of the study aims at identifying and analyzing the pragmatic and doctrinal aspects in Muslim Brotherhood's policies in Jordan at practical and intellectual levels. It will also answer the following questions: To what extent does Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan pursue a pragmatic and doctrinal line when dealing with internal and external issues? What aspects of their policy do indicate that they are pragmatic or doctrinal? And what are the major factors that drive Muslim Brotherhood to adopt pragmatic or doctrinal policies? To achieve its objectives، the study used the historical، comparative and content analysis approaches. The following findings are concluded: Muslim Brotherhood's political behavior depends on its pragmatism which made their presence legal in Jordan. The study also shows that the 2005 movement's vision for reform is a very significant intellectual pragmatic move as it is a turning point in the movement's position towards democratic values، political plurality and authority rotation. The study also shows that demotic، international regional circumstances have an impact on the relation of Jordanian Regime with the Muslim Brotherhood which prompted both sides to adopt pragmatic as well as doctrinal policies.
