The Rhetorical and Textual Devices in Al-Shabby’s “Ya-shi‘r”

Abstract

This study purports to investigate the elements that constitute the rhetorical and textual devices in Al-Shabby’s poem “Ya-shi‘r”; because of their importance in conveying the communicative purpose of the poet and showing the effect of these devices on the target reader. The researcher examined the concept of expressivity and its various domains, the textual dimensions of these rhetorical devices, how they can be revealed, and how these devices are realized in the text. The researcher concluded that the following factors have contributed to the formation of these rhetorical devices: the intentionality of the linguistic expressions used the concise reoccurrence of the stylistic choices, the rhetorical devices, and the technique of textual purpose.
