GIS applications in the management of archaeological sites, tourism: Applied study on the Byzantine churches in the province of Mafraq

Abstract

The Study focused on the disclosure of the Byzantine churches in the province of Mafraq,  planning and management using geographical information system, the study combines theory and practice, to include the conceptual framework of dealing with the concepts of geographical information system, and contribute to a practical application to benefit from geographic information system to the possibility of storage and retrieval and modification, processing and presentation data, maps and mapped multi-layered, and the study found a number of results including: the management and development of the Byzantine churches, the use of geographical information system provides time and effort by drawing on the aerial photos and satellite and topographic maps with high accuracy, and analysis and access to accurate results in a very short period of time when compared to the duration of time required by using the traditional methods.
