Abstract

This article presents a course in linguistics as an enabling environment for intercultural education. It focuses on showing the intercultural approach used in this course. The approach urges the learners to take an active part in the comprehension of the foreign culture while maintaining awareness of their own cultural properties at the same time. Therefore, the article suggests that a course of linguistics might serve as a context for a profound and thorough reflexions upon and exchange of certain cultural aspects. To this effect, these reflexions are to implicate learners in the formation of the intercultural process. Many examples the article alludes to show that such a course contributes broadly to the development of an appropriate intercultural competence among learners of a foreign language.
