Abstract

The study looks at some phases of psychological approach to models of Pre- Islamic poetry and it reveals the roots of the psychological theory, mainly of Freud and Young. Moreover, it identifies phases of psychological approach in its quest to probe models from the Pre-Islamic poetry literature. It followed two tracks: general and private.

In the general track, the psychological approach has attempted to reveal the psychological factors such as: sorrow and fear of the pre-Islamic poet. While in the private track, the psychological approach took a deeper quest in its attempts to apply psychoanalysis to Standing on “Talal” “ prelude of “Talal”. In this it linked creation to repression and compulsion. It also emphasized the importance of eroticism factor in determining the identity of “standing on “Talal” ”.

The study also attempts to identify a vision of the psychological theory which, on the one hand, shows its importance through digging into layers of unconsciousness of the creative person and of creation. On the other hand, it criticizes this psychological approach in its overemphasizing the eroticism factor and in ignoring the overall of the pre-Islamic poetic experience as poetry represents intellectual and esthetical awareness for the world.
