Abstract

The present paper sheds light on the role of the British and Hijaz Governments in running the hajj affairs in 1916. After the suspension of the Hajj season during the first world war the Ottoman empire joined the war . During this critical period, Sharif  Hussain announced independence and established an Arab government on 10 June 1916.

Thus, the Hijazi and the British governments facilitated Hajj regulation for this year.

Though the number of pilgrims coming from Morocco, Egypt, and India by sea and by land was very few , Haj season has been considered successful and pilgrims performed Haj rituals fully and returned home safely.
