Abstract

The Dumat al-Jundal (Al-Jouf) at the present time is the area north west of Saudi Arabia, and is bordered to the north and north-eastern emirate's northern border, and north-west Principality of Mazda, which was part of the Emirate of Al-Jouf, and the West Principality of  Tabuk, on the south and south-east Abu Hail, and occupy this region an area of ​​58.425 km 2, and characterized by Dumat al-Jundal abundance of agricultural water, in addition to its prestigious in the foot as the most important crossing of the Arabian peninsula within the property the old empires in the Levant, Iraq and Persia as it is located on the edge of Nafud the Great, and then was of great importance in ancient history as it was considered a fortress of the Arabian Peninsula in the North face of the attackers from the north and north-east, and if it lands Dumat al-Jundal fell thus the rest of the neighboring cities.

The history of the area Jandal to ancient times , it has been shown and archaeological inscriptions on the human settlement of the area immemorial as found in some locations on pieces of flint and stone tools used by the population in that period of time, and showed archaeological research of modern and there are many of Nabataean inscriptions and ceramic pieces which indicates that there was a human settlement in the region , if we take into account the availability of fresh water and arable soil in the region, it could be argued that the Jandal was filled and populated during the first millennium BC , where the population was engaged in agriculture and also trade with a number of important trade centers in the Arabian Peninsula , has been characterized Hollow geographical location near the entrance to Wadi Sirhan and entrances to the Arabian Peninsula , Syria and Iraq , making it a partner in the commercial movement that flourished before Islam .
