Attitudes of Citizens in Jordanian Governorates towards the 2013 Parliamentary Elections "A Statistical Analysis Study"

Abstract

This study has been conducted to learn the attitudes of Jordanian citizens to the 2013 Parliamentary elections in an attempt to understand how the whole process of elections being run as well as to determine the relationship between democracy and elections and the performance of Parliament. It also aims at understanding the importance of the political participation in parliamentary elections process.. The Sample of the study which was selected randomly included participants from the twelve governorates of the kingdom in which (5628) questionnaires were distributed. A questionnaire which consisted of (45) paragraphs was designed to identify the citizen's trends and attitudes towards the upcoming elections. The founding of the study were as follows:

1.       As for the indicator related to satisfaction with the current elections system (one vote) was about (21%) and the rest of the participants preferred the system of the list or a combination of the list system along with the one – vote system.

2.       Most of the sample (81.82%) supported holding the election in its constitutional date without any delay.

The study did not reveal any statistics related differences in the in the attitudes of Jordanians citizens towards upcoming parliamentary elections due to the difference in age, place of residence or educational level on the study instrument in general or on the scopes of the study instrument. As a result neither the study instrument nor the scopes of the study instrument have been affected. And There were statistics related differences among the of Jordanians attitudes towards 2013 parliamentary election in particular on the overall performance and the way elections are run (procedures). Males had the upper hand in the differences revealed.
